A Simple Technique for Introducing Lipiodol into the Lungs.

چکیده
The disadvantage of the first method is the inevitable partial swallowing of the oil and the difficulty of a uniform distribution of the oil througlhout the bronchial tree. The second method as usually porformed requires profound anaesthesia of the laryngo-pharynx and expert laryngological skill. The method we originally adopted at the bronchoscopic cliinic at the Margaret Street I-Jospital for Consumption was that of Dr. Garcia Vicente, which consists of a catheter introduction through the larynx by means of a special forceps for holding and directing the catheter into the larynx. The necessity for profound anaesthesia of the laryngo-pharynx, and the bulkiness of the forceps, which made it especially difficult to use in nervous and young patients, was the reason for our originating this quite simple technique. Reasoning that the natural way to the larynx is through the nose, we tried introducing the catheter along the floor of the nose, and were astonished at the ease and simplicity with which the catheter entered the larynx. The procedure is so simple that no previous experience is necessary.

Introducing a New Experimental Islet Transplantation Model using Biomimetic Hydrogel and a Simple High Yield Islet Isolation Technique
Background: Islet transplantation could be an ideal alternative treatment to insulin therapy for type 1 diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). This clinical and experimental field requires a model that covers problems such as requiring a large number of functional and viable islets, the optimal transplantation site, and the prevention of islet dispersion. Hence, the methods of choice for isolation of functi...
متن کاملA rare complication after transarterial chemoembolization for hepatocellular carcinoma.
An 80-year-old woman was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma and underwent transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). The procedure went smoothly without any complications. However, she presented with a dry cough 3 months after the intervention. On physical examination, she did not appear cyanotic. Chest auscultation revealed a minimal crackle sound in the perihilar lung fields; other respirat...
متن کاملLocal tissue reaction after injection of contrast media on gastric wall of mouse: experimental study for application of contrast media to computed tomography lymphography
PURPOSE Computed tomography (CT) lymphography is a simple technique of sentinel node navigation but tissue reaction after injection of contrast media has not been reported yet. METHODS NINETY MICE USED IN THIS STUDY WERE DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS: lipiodol, iopamidol, and normal saline. The test compounds were given by submucosal injection to the gastric wall of anesthetized mice. The specime...
متن کاملReal-time computed tomography fluoroscopy-guided solitary lung tumor model in a rabbit
Preclinical studies of lung cancer require suitable large-animal models to allow evaluation and development of surgical and interventional techniques. We assessed the feasibility and safety of a novel rabbit lung cancer model of solitary tumors, in which real-time computed tomography fluoroscopy is used to guide inoculation of VX2 carcinoma single-cell suspensions. Thirty-eight rabbits were div...

Our knowledge on the subject has, however, become much more precise since the introduction of lipiodol bronchography by Sicard and Forestier (1922), the use of the bronchoscope in examining...
